I do everything I can not to get bogged down in one area. This sucks the life out of you and makes you think you’ll never finish the photo. Working on different areas and moving around helps keep the work fresh. Approaching photos this way protects you from mentally checking out and throwing in the towel.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, cloning or healing on separate layers with the photo showing beneath is a very effective way to clean. Every single application of the Clone Stamp, Spot Healing Brush, and Healing Brush tools in this chapter—indeed the book—assumes that you use them on a separate layer.
