They had partied all night after getting away from the strip club. Too drunk to ride her scoot home, Phoenix had stayed at Tea’s. She wasn’t feeling any better as she rolled into the driveway. If she managed to park the fucking bike without dropping it that would be a miracle.

Pulling into the drive, she couldn’t miss the bikes lined up. Road Devils were visiting her uncle. Had she missed a memo? This was becoming a problem. Wasn’t he supposed to put some distance between them. Parking her bike, Phoenix looked at herself in the mirror. Damn, she looked rough. The whites of her eyes were pink, and they burned like hell. Heading for the kitchen for possible food, she kept her leather jacket on over the hoodie. Maybe she could climb up the stairs to her apartment afterwards.

Pushing open the door, she heard yelling coming from the living room. Multiple raised voices sobered her up fast as she pulled the twin sigs from her shoulder holsters. She stepped into the room, lining up the barrels with whomever was the threat to her uncle.

Ash saw her first. The look on his face said she better be able to back it up. Looking to her uncle for direction he was already waving her off.

“Nix, man, what the fuck are you doing?” Declan hollered at her from across the living room.

She pointed to her throat and the ceiling with one gun. “Put the guns away. We’re yelling about the football game.” He pointed at the flatscreen.

Glancing over, sure enough football was playing on the 70 inch across the room. She was too hungover to deal with this shit. Turning around, she headed back to the kitchen. She stopped when Ash said her name. Phoenix was sure the look on her face told him she wasn’t in the mood.

“You pulled those sigs like you were ready to use them,” Ash commented.

She holstered the guns before flipping him off. Shoving her hands in her pockets she went into the kitchen to calm down. If her hands weren’t in her pockets, their shaking would give her away. Did she know how to shoot? Fuck yes. Had she shot someone before? Yes, and the feeling never left her.

Grabbing two beers out of the fridge she pulled back the tab on one and slammed the contents down. Ash stepped into the room as she tossed the can in the trash. Leaning against the counter, she crossed her feet at the ankles. She wailed for him to say something when he didn't, she opened the second beer and drank half of it down. Scratching at the nonexistent scruff on her face, she closed her eyes. It was easier than trying to keep them open. She needed a shower and a bed. She needed to not be around him. It was like he had crawled into her head and was renting a damn room.

Standing in the kitchen, Ash looked at the kid across the room. “You look like shit, Nix.
