"Agreed," she said, and Franklin also assented.

When they entered Garibaldi's quarters there was nothing amiss. But as soon as the door was closed there came a knock.

"You call for room service?" Ivanova asked, not laughing.

Garibaldi drew the PPG handgun hidden in his boot and said, emphatically, "No."

He nodded toward the other room. "Why don't you two wait in there?"

Ivanova and Franklin withdrew to the adjoining room. In a moment there came sounds of a scuffle and they were driven back out, hands over their heads. As Garibaldi turned his attention to them the door flew open and two heavily armed imperial guards rushed into the room. One of them drove the barrel of his PPG rifle at Garibaldi's wrist, causing him to drop his own weapon.
