4 – We all love to hear about the people we work with and we also enjoy spreading rumours about so and so who is shagging Jane in accounts. If nothing else, it adds some colour to an otherwise grey environment.

10 – The Gossip is incredibly common and we are all gossips to a lesser or greater degree. There is no doubt that advances in communication technology have increased the prevalence and scope of the Gossip. Over 35 per cent prefer to use the phone and over 20 per cent like to text their gossip. But, let’s face it, most prefer to do it in person, if only to see the reaction on the recipient’s face. Although both men and women gossip, it is women who believe it is an obligation and god-given right – but then, men don’t call it gossip, they call it networking.
