Chapter 17
âGood-bye! Thank you!â Lina waved to the Limoniades as the glowing spirits faded into the distance, taking their shining golden drops of nectar with them. Their farewell coos tumbled musically on the wind.
âThat was wonderful to watch, Persephone.â Eurydice was all smiles as Lina rejoined her at the edge of the gardens.
âIâm so glad they called me. It was an amazing experience,â Lina gushed. She felt giddy and energized, like sheâd bad too many double-shot cappuccinos before breakfast. âOh, Eurydice, this world is incredible.â She grinned, slinging an arm around the spirit and hugging her. Lina glanced around them. âHades left?â she asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
âHe had to attend to the business of his realm. But,â she added quickly as the Goddessâs shining face dimmed, âhe commanded me to request your presence at the stables on the morrow.â
âRiding Orion again.â Linaâs smile turned dreamy as she thought about the black stallion. She would definitely look forward to the morning rideâalmost as much as sheâd look forward to seeing Hades. Her mind skittered around, jumbling images of the Godâs sweat-beaded body, the sensuous song of the Limoniades and the way Hadesâ lips had burned against hers. Linaâs young borrowed body tingled erotically.
âThat horse frightens me,â Eurydice said.
Lina blinked, refocusing on Eurydiceâs pale face. Merda! She needed to stop letting her mind wander.
âHeâs nothing to be frightened of. Really, heâs like a puppy in my hands,â Lina said breezily, trying not to think about Orionâs master, and how unlike a puppy he felt under her hands.
âI think Iâll just stay away from him,â Eurydice said.
Lina told herself thatâs probably the attitude she should have about Hades. He was too damn dangerously attractive. She should just stay away from him. But the low ache in her body murmured that she wouldnât.
She definitely needed to get her mind off Hades.
âHey, how about we go find me something to drink?â Lina wiggled her eyebrows at Eurydice. âAll this nectar-gathering has made me thirsty for ambrosia.â
Eurydice tittered, âIt has also made you sticky.â
Lina glanced down at herself. Shiny speckles of golden dots were sprinkled like dew all over her body. She touched one of them and then put her finger to her mouth. It tasted like sugarcane mixed with honey mixed with something like caramel or maybe butterscotch. It was delicious. But Eurydice was right, she was a mess. And she certainly was not going to think about how it would feel to have Hades lick the sweet drops off her body.
âI need a shower. A cold one,â she muttered.
âYou wish to be caught in a cold rain?â
Lina laughed. âNot exactly. A shower isnât just rain from the skies. Itâs kind of like bathing, only youâre standing up and water is being poured over you.â
âOh, that sounds like my motherâs bathing ritual, although she did not like her water cold,â Eurydice said.
Startled, Lina asked, âReally, what kind of bathing ritual did your mother have?â
Eurydice grinned impishly. âI could show you. It would probably be an easier way to get the nectar off of you.
