Sunday rolled around, and Finn finally made an appearance.

“Hey loverboy, you hit that yet?” Finn asked.

“Damn man, way to cock block me.”

“Yea you have totally not hit that yet.”

“I can hear you,” Vicky said from the kitchen area.

“Kind of the point, what are those C cups?” Finn asked, and my eyes inadvertently went to her breasts.

“Finn! Why are you acting like a horny teenager?” I laughed.

“Oh my boy, that comes from you. My emotions are you, its hard to explain, but we are tied together. You get angry, I get angry, you get horny, I -”

“Ok, we can stop that conversation,” I said, but Vicky’s sultry laugh rang out behind me, and of course, I blushed. “Finn what about the competition? Find anything out?”

“Sort of, you sure you want to talk about it with her here? What I found out could very well put her in danger. I mean real danger.”

“I can step out if you want.”

“First, have you ever heard of Office Wars?” I asked her and saw her eyes shift towards the door. “You’ve participated haven’t you?”

“Holy crap! Really?” Finn asked.

“I told you, creepy boss. He got me involved with that crap. If you are involved, back out.” She said.

“I tried. If I do, I get a corporate blackball. Throwing the game is death.”

“Bran, I do not know how much you know, but Office Wars is not safe. I teamed up with several people, and we wanted to meet up after. We never gave up our names, just in case, but we picked a landmark we all knew and chose a time and date to meet. We talked about it for over a week, until we started dropping out of the game one by one. I made it to our rendezvous, but no one else showed up.” She paused looking Bran over.

“They might have backed out, but I believe they are dead.” Vicky was quiet, but then she sighed and continued. “The office changes every year, but the structure is simple, get to the next floor. Collect all the items you can, they are key and hold on to anything that seems unusual. Do not play a Suit. There are a lot of ways to advance so just keep your eyes open, and you will find it. Never assume the floor shapes are symmetrical and understand they will not fit any pattern that makes sense. If something seems like it is going away from your destination, it is most definitely going towards it.”

“Damn, you know your shit,” Finn said. “Now I feel inadequate. She’s wielding a broadsword, and I am showing a letter opener.”

I started laughing because Finn knew how to make a situation awkward and funny at the same time. And I gave up exasperation for my New Year’s resolution.

“Let’s hear what you know anyway,” Vicky said.

“Death squads are real. If your identity is known, they have a way of locating Pods. There is a guild in Neuroma, and it turns out you can hire them for the right price.
