Morse was among the first to receive the details of the photographic process when Daguerre made it available, and he soon opened the first daguerreotype studio in the United States with his brothers Sidney and Richard. Soon other studios opened across the country. By 1841 New York City had over one hundred daguerreotype studios, and by 1853 there were thirty-seven of them on Broadway alone. “Daguerromania” had taken hold of the United States (see fig. 28).
