CHAPTER 10

Georgia was extremely looking forward to the absolutely wonderful medical bay reopening just so she could get her hands attended to. They hurt like hell and the skin on her hands were crispy, blacken and Georgia wanted to scream in agony, but she was amongst Angels so she forced herself not to.

The air stunk of grapefruits, lemons and limes as Georgia sat in a small oval room with just herself and the almighty Lord of War in his black armour and this time his two impressive battle axes were placed against the warm white walls of the room.

Georgia really wished she shared his confidence that no one would dare to interfere with their little meeting and mini-lunch (or whatever the real time was), but Georgia seriously didn’t.

Instead Georgia put her black booted feet up on the freshly polished brown oak dining table that was shaped in another oval and just smiled at Ares as he looked at her. He was probably wondering if she was being “bad” or whatever according to normal humans.

Georgia wouldn’t have actually minded playing some blackjack or even poker on the oval table. It was perfect for the game and Georgia felt like relaxing, but the mission was far too important for that.

“The capital world has to be important,” Georgia said.

Ares looked up from his little plate of red, blue and yellow fresh fruit and nodded.

“I agree,” Ares said, wiping his mouth. “Do you want a plate?”

Georgia nodded and Ares flicked his wrist and a large plate of freshly sliced strawberries, lemons and grapefruit materialised in front of her. Georgia was really impressed, this sort of replicated food was almost impossible to get in the Empire Army for an influential commander like herself, let alone the half-starved troops.

“I think we should order the fleet to go to the capital world,” Georgia said. “But what happened to the Nihilus Defence force’s warships that appeared earlier? I was too busy focusing on the apes and by the time I returned from the power adventure they were gone,”

Ares cocked his head for a moment and then looked to the ground and finally looked at her.

“You’re right,” Ares said. “After the apes in the bridge, I was focused on cleaning up, finding replacements for the command crew... and of course your forces engaged the enemy and they retreated,”

Georgia smiled. As the commander in charge here she really should have checked in with her forces, but the entire situation was so mad she had forgotten.

A mistake she couldn’t make again.

“When we make it to the capital world,” Georgia said, “the enemy will attack us but you must make it onto the planet’s surface,”

Ares took another mouthful of his sliced fruit and shrugged. “Why me?”

Georgia took her feet off the table and leant forward with such bad posture her former Commander would have whipped her.

“Because my Lord, you need to kill the Planetary Governor and find the truth,” Georgia said.

“And you my dear,” Ares said, “will need to command the orbital
