Chapter 4: Finishing Moves - Review Time

A NOTE ON THE TEST ITSELF

Before you get going on the review, it’s important to understand exactly what you will be up against on June 7th.

The test is six hours total, in two three-hour sections. It begins at 9 am, there is a two hour break at noon, and it resumes at 2 pm. There will be hundreds if not thousands of people taking this exam at the same location as you. It will likely be at an odd location to accommodate this, so you’ll want to do research on your testing center. Where is it, how do I get there, and what are my lunch options? I’ll address more details on the logistics as we get closer to the exam.

REVIEW TIME

By this point, you should have put in 200 hours of new material study, read close to 1,500 pages, and answered over 2,000 practice questions over the course of four and a half months. Now it’s final countdown time. Time to put a bow on it and make sure you’re ready for exam day.

This is the final four weeks where the goal is to review and drill on everything you’ve learned so far. A portion of this Review Period will focus on just getting you ready to be a professional test taker. Once we’re done you should have no problem confidently sitting down for a 6 hour exam. That’s what Ninjas do! The other portion of these final weeks is devoted to reinforcing the study material and fixing problem areas.

As for time commitment, there is no magic number for how many hours you study or how many practice questions you answer at this point. If you’re testing below 75%, you need to do more and continue to focus on problem areas. If you’re above 75%, it’s not a signal to relax. Keep studying at your current pace and be sure to dig in to any sudden drops in overall scores or in specific areas.

With that being said, 15-25 hours per week is about right for most. If you’re destroying your practice tests, this could be as low as 10 hours per week. If you’re behind it will be more. You should expect 7-10 of those hours to be dedicated exclusively to taking full practice tests – 6 hours of the exam, plus time to grade and review. The rest of your week will be dedicated to reviewing the material, and in particular your problem areas.

Review Week 1

TAKE A FULL PRACTICE EXAM

Your first task this week is to sit down and take a full Schweser practice exam. As I mentioned earlier, consider your weeks beginning on a Saturday, so this should be your first priority on the weekend since it does take so much time. If necessary during this first week, you can break the full practice exam in halves to accommodate your schedule. Time yourself just as you would be timed on exam day. Three hours for the AM section, three hours for the PM.
