George followed Eric into his estate in the mountains above Evergreen. The two men sat down in the living room across from each other.

“Thanks for being there when we returned,” Eric said. He was quiet for a moment. “I can’t believe Dan’s gone.”

George nodded. “I know. We’ll miss his wisdom in our decisions.” He hung his head.

After a long silence, Eric spoke again. “While we were gone, did you make any progress on this computer assignment that Simone gave you?”

“I did. Took some fancy footwork manipulating the codes. I’m not sure why Mossad wants such a thing, but in a few more hours I believe I’ll be ready to finish completing the connections.”

Eric rubbed his forehead. “What would be the purpose of such a device?”

“I’ve given that some thought,” George said. “The Syrians have always been a persistent enemy of Israel. At one point, the Israelis secretly bombed a nuclear site for fear of Syria making a nuclear bomb. They wouldn’t hesitate to strike the Syrians again. Possibly this device has some part in that sort of assault. She could be aiming at their industrial capacities. Maybe trying to shut down an ammunitions facility.”

“Hmm. The experts in London and Germany don’t know more than we do. Right?”

George nodded his head. “We’re all working in the dark.”
