Chapter Fifteen

Brandon rejected any arguments his brain was trying to make. Why would he listen to an argument when Lilly’s mouth was under his? Eager and sweet. Her arms winding around his neck.

Somehow, she tasted exactly as he would have thought. Bright and fresh and sweet. It was just a mouth, the same as any mouth he’d ever kissed, but it wasn’t. No matter how much reason dictated it should be—she was everything unique and new.

Her hair was silk and her breasts were soft crushed to his chest. She was this strong, determined woman, but she’d melted against him like wax and he wouldn’t deny the thrill that gave him.

Later, much later, he could worry about all that psychological crap. For now, it was only her. The way he could span her back with his two hands, taking the entire landscape that existed under the thin fabric of his old T-shirt.

She always walked around like she held the world capably on those narrow shoulders, and it was easy to forget how much bigger he was than her. He liked that she could be both, a complex, fascinating, maddening mix of all manner of polar opposites.

He moved her backwards, until she was against the wall, until he could press his entire body against hers. Her knees, her thighs, her stomach—everything was against him, under him. For him.

He broke the kiss at that, because . . . this thing lighting a fire inside of him was new and, he could admit in the comfort of his own mind, more than a little concerning. Okay, fine, frightening. It was this thing he’d skillfully avoided for years, purposefully, hoping it would never grab him by the throat like this.

But here it was. Her hands might not be around his throat, but her fingers were in his hair and her body was pressed to his, and that was enough for him to want to toss every promise he’d ever made himself in the fire.

Her eyes fluttered open, meeting his gaze. In the faint fire and candlelight, her eyes seemed like some kind of liquid silver, mesmerizing and something he could drown in.

“We can stop.” He would stop, because he was a better man than his father somewhere.

She smiled at him—smiled—and even if he’d tried to come up with an argument now, a rational, reasonable cease and desist, it’d be impossible. He was
