It was supposed to have stopped by now. The adrenaline was out of his system and the tingling effects it had were gone too.
At first, Sying hadnât wanted to acknowledge that something else was happening. His arm and neck had itched ever since the incident and while he didn't want to cause a fuss, he also wouldn't be able to focus on his fucking work if he felt driven to claw through his protective suit to get at the itch.
Much to his relief, it had ebbed and faded during the day but was now back with a vengeance. Heâd noticed a rash too, which meant he had to see a medic. Maybe they would know what he was dealing with.
He could already hear what they would tell him. His aunt was a hypochondriac who could cause symptoms by the stress of worrying about the symptoms she thought she felt.
Maybe that shit was genetic but honestly, he didnât have to worry. The medics didnât know his aunt and he had the visible signs of a genuine problem. All he knew was that he had difficulty focusing on the road when he wanted to get out and scratch his arm on the paving.
It was probably a good thing that he was so meticulous about keeping his nails trimmed or he would have clawed through the skin already.
Thankfully he pulled the vehicle in to park at the medical center only a few moments later. Before he could do anything, he paused and scratched again until the stinging pain overwhelmed the itch. The latter would be back, though, and it was odd how he preferred the pain to it.
Sying looked up and suddenly registered the presence of two people in the parking lot. He recognized both, although he only knew Dr. Han. The other was the soldier who had been injured on the trip into the Zoo.
Both were smoking but they had paused to look at him, likely curious as to why he stopped everything to scratch his arm. He sighed and accepted that an explanation was in order, if only to reassure them that he hadnât lost his mind.
"I know you might have some questions about that," he said and gestured at the vehicle. "But I can explain."
"No questions," the soldier answered. "Itâs not our business."
Han took a drag of his cigarette before he nodded. "Besides, we know what ails you. It might have happened to the two of us when we were in that containment room, although how the fuck anything got through our suits is a mystery."
Both men extended their arms and Sying was surprised to see that they were dealing with the same thing he was. The soldier's rash appeared to be a little better, pink instead of the outright red that was visible on Han's arms.
"It blisters from time to time," the private muttered. "But sometimes, it goes away like it's dormant or something."
"Are you here to see the doctor about it too?" he asked and shook his head when Han offered him a smoke.
