The Superlative Martini
THE TRADITIONAL DRYVER MOUTH FOR THE MARTINI is Noilly Prat, although any dry vermouth will suffice, but a premium-quality gin is the only guarantee of a perfect Martini. Store both the gin and the glasses in the freezer for the ideal icy coldness. Stir your liquid ingredients gently with cracked ice or ice cubes in a glass martini pitcher until the glass turns frosty, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with either an olive or a lemon peel twisted over the drink to diffuse the tart, bitter oil from the rind into the drink.
