Assertiveness is being respectful of the other person but isn’t looking to them for approval, permission, or validation. An assertive negotiator knows what they want and is prepared to ask for it. And contrary to what your ego will tell you, being assertive will not hurt your relationship with the other side or your chances for a successful negotiation.
