“IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT YOU HAVE DONE EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO PREPARE YOURSELF, THEN THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR.”

ONCE A CHAMPION, ALWAYS A CHAMPION

CHAPTER 6

When Michael sets his mind to do something, he gets it done. Win multiple championships? Check. Play baseball? Check. Play basketball again? Check. He was always readying himself and his body for the next goal. When Michael played baseball, he reshaped his body to handle the rigors of the game. Then, when he returned to basketball two years later, he understood that he was older and had to recondition his body once again.

He had been skinny in high school and college. He’d gained lean muscle at the beginning of his pro basketball career, then added some bulk to withstand the punishment he was getting from teams like the Detroit Pistons and the New York Knicks. For baseball, he worked with a trainer to add even more muscle weight in the right areas while strengthening his core and toughening up his hands. Before he returned to playing basketball, he did the work needed to shape his body into a combination of strength, flexibility, muscle, and guile—this was Jordan 2.0.
