1 ounce Del Maguey Vida mezcal

1 ounce Aperol

1 ounce blanc vermouth

Large grapefruit twist for garnish

Combine the ingredients, except the garnish, in a mixing glass three-quarters filled with ice. Stir until chilled, about 30 seconds. Strain into an old-fashioned glass over one large ice cube. Express the grapefruit twist over the surface and drop it into the drink.

Mezcapolitan

Ryan DeRosa, Mucha Lucha, Milwaukee (2018)

Mucha Lucha was Milwaukee’s first mezcal bar. It opened in 2018, located in the basement space underneath the bar of the Hotel Madrid. This drink is DeRosa’s approximation of a mezcal cosmopolitan. It comes remarkably close to the experience of the 1990s bar staple.
