“When I finished on 208 I went, against my will, to CFS and then to Cranwell as an instructor on Vampires. I picked up the Clarkson Aerobatic Trophy at CFS and the first thing I did when I got to Cranwell was to form an aerobatic team. We’d had one on 208, we never gave ourselves a name, we just said that everybody should be able to do formation aerobatics. When I got to Cranwell we did our first display on my birthday on 1 May 1956. So I spent a lot of time, when not instructing, on the team, which was good fun.
