My date with Hudson on Thursday was great. More than great. Fantastic, amazing, dreamlike. It was so easy to fall back into how we were with each other. We’ve had two months to slide into this since I saw him at the engagement party, and he’s been persistent in getting together. That’s one quality he definitely hasn’t lost. Hudson and persistence go together like Oreos and peanut butter (don’t judge—it’s an amazing combo).

I never thought my heart would stop hurting enough to give him another chance, yet he makes my heart beat to a different tune.

I turn on the lights in the studio and lock the door behind me. Although it’s Saturday, I need to work on my workshop presentation and choreography. Tonight I have a Christmas gathering with my friends, and Hudson will be there. It’ll be like our re-debut because I know he’s going to make it a point to show everyone that there’s something brewing between us.

Fingers crossed, I’m not awkward about it, especially since we haven’t discussed our relationship status, which is totally fine since we’re still getting reacquainted without the whole resentment issue creating a barrier.

Clearing my mind, I look at my notes and practice what I have choreographed so far. I get lost in the steps and movements until I’m sweaty and breathless. Once I turn off the music, I notice a knocking sound. My steps guide me to the front of the studio. Hudson stands on the other side of the glass door, trembling and holding coffee. My heart skips a beat.

“Hey, sorry.” I step aside for him to enter after unlocking the door.

“Hey, it’s okay. I should’ve known you wouldn’t hear me.” He stomps his boots on the rug at the entrance. The snow is all dirty already, what I hate about it, but I’ll take any type of snow.

“It’s nice and warm in here. I brought you some coffee and a snack since I know you get sucked into dancing and lose track of time.” His smile is dazzling and brightens his eyes.

“Thank you.” I reach for the cup he hands me. “Come on.” I lead him to the dance room and smile when he toes off his boots before stepping inside.

“I don’t have chairs here. Think you can handle sitting on the floor?” I smirk.

“I may not be the most flexible person, but I was an athlete. I see your challenge.” He removes his coat and drops to the floor ungracefully.

“Smooth,” I giggle. “Were you outside for a long time?”

“Just a couple of minutes, so I guess it was good timing.” He takes a drink of coffee. “Good, it’s still hot.”

I do the same, inhaling the comforting aroma. The caffeine bursts in my mouth, warming me from the inside.

“I brought you a blueberry muffin.” He opens the paper bag.

“Yummy. Thanks for this.” I lift the cup and reach into the bag for the muffin.

“Don’t thank me. It was purely for selfish reasons.”

“How so?” I tilt my head, stretching one of my legs out to the side.
