Dax’l’s eyes pierced into mine with a flicker of determination. My words didn’t seem to register. I wasn’t his. I couldn’t be. No matter how life changing that kiss had been. I couldn’t let it happen again. This connection between us, whatever it was, would only lead to heartache.

But fuck that kiss had truly been incredible. My body had instantly lit on fire the moment his lips met mine. I felt things for Dax’l that I had never felt before. If I was honest with myself, I desperately wanted to be his. I wanted to fully believe in the mating bond between us, I wanted to have no ties pulling me back to Earth…I wanted him.

I shook my head, not letting myself linger on those thoughts. I took another step back from Dax’l. “I should go. I wanted to check on the other women before taking some time to rest.”

Dax’l stiffened. “Yes, I was going to ask you to visit the women…It seems my actions did, indeed, scare quite a few of them.” I smirked and Dax’l didn’t even look the least bit ashamed. “A few of my men have complained about the women staying locked away in their quarters. I had hoped that, maybe, you could smooth things over and convince them to at least eat their meals in the dining hall.”

“I’ll do my best.” I walked past the hulking male and eyed his scars once more, which gave me an idea. “Actually, Tarvok mentioned that your people were working on bringing back your old ways and traditions. Are there handmade items or art that the Cor’vans used to make that could be gifted to the women? This would be an excellent way to teach us about Cor’va as your mission calls for, and act as a simple peace offering.”

Art in all its forms had a way of bringing people together. It was why I chose it as my focus in university. Of course, I had an education degree to back it up, but now, neither one of those studies would help me land a job back on Earth.

Dax’l’s brows furrowed in thought before the corner of his lips slowly pulled up. “Yes. I think I know the perfect thing. Thank you, Corin’a. This is an excellent idea.”
