Chapter 13

Phoenix, Arizona

Janelle landed back in Phoenix and she was exhausted. It was after nine at night and she didn’t bother calling Jackson to let him know she was coming back or to pick her up. She kept dosing off on the cab ride home and didn’t feel like calling Brandon, so she decided to call him in the morning. When Janelle made it home, she paid the cab driver and he helped her with her bags. Afterwards, she went to the front door, unlocked it and then walked in. She found Jackson and a woman on the couch laughing and talking; she then dropped her bags. The sound of the bags hitting the floor startled Jackson and the unknown woman on the couch, as they jumped and looked towards the door. Jackson quickly got off the couch and walked towards Janelle; he saw the expression on her face and slowed down.

“Hey baby, you back already. I didn’t expect you home so soon. This is Tina, I had her doing receptionist work at the office while you were gone.” Jackson said, as Tina walked over to them and introduced herself. Janelle looked at them with rage in her eyes. She wanted to shoot them, but instead, she suddenly started laughing and shook her head.

“Wow that was fast. I wish I was given the heads up before finding my man and his new woman in my house, but ok.” Janelle said, as she walked pass them and Jackson quickly grabbed her arm.

“Oh hell nah! This not what it looks like. We’re not having an affair baby, we haven’t done nothing, I swear. This is her first time here and she came over to give me some files.” Jackson pleaded, not wanting to lose Janelle over a misunderstanding.

Janelle just looked at him and then shrugged her shoulders; she walked away from them and went upstairs. He turned back to look at Tina.

“I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t of come over here. I’ll go.” Tina stated.

“Yeah, and now that my wife is back we won’t need your help at the office no more.” Jackson stated, as she nodded, grabbed her purse and then left. Jackson locked the door behind her and then ran up the stairs, taking the steps two at a time. When he reached the bedroom, he saw that Janelle was in the shower, so he sat on the armchair in their bedroom and waited until she got out. Janelle didn’t know what to think about what she just saw and only knew that Jackson was a man and it was possible that he would cheat on her, but regardless it was still disrespectful to have another woman in the house, while she was gone.

She didn’t care to talk about any of it and had enough drama in a few days to last her for a while. She finished her shower, put some pajamas on and then walked out the bathroom. As soon as Jackson saw the door open, he got up from the chair and waited on her to say something to him.
