The Passion of Decisiveness

We’re journeying toward a destiny that is assured because we have decided hearts. People such as Michael Jordan, Oprah Winfrey, Albert Einstein, Richard Branson, and Tiger Woods are so extra-ordinary because they have mastered life on their own terms, with decided hearts. With decided hearts, we learn to defy conventional standards with a childlike playfulness. We can actually develop a sense of excitement that triggers action in the face of criticism and rejection, breeding solutions and movement toward what we want instead of what we don’t want. It awakens a burning desire and relentless determination when the odds are stacked against us.

Poor is the man whose future depends on the opinions and permission of others.Remember this: if you are afraid of criticism, you will die doing nothing!

Distilled into one word, the idea of a decided heart is passion. Passion comes from the heart. It has nothing to do with the mind. In fact, in times of decision, you might have heard somebody say, “The whole thing moved from my head to my heart.” That’s passion. Passion assists you when you have a great dream. It breeds conviction and turns mediocrity into excellence in everything you do.

Passion inspires other people to join you in your pursuit. You can set yourself on fire and people will come to watch you burn. Passion helps you overcome insurmountable obstacles. You become unstoppable! Your life becomes a statement—an example. Others will see their futures in your eyes.

Joan of Arc was only seventeen years old when she led the armies of France against the English. One afternoon as the armies of France were approaching the city, they saw in the distance tens of thousands of soldiers manning the barricades at every elevation. Joan of Arc told her leaders, “Immediately. Now. Now, we must take them. Now.” The leaders were horrified at her boldness and passion for winning this battle against seasoned warriors! After all, she was a peasant girl leading a rabble of men from France.

“I intend to strike at the heart of the barricade,” she said.

“If you go in, not a man will follow you,” they told her.

Simply, she replied, “I won’t be looking back.”

This young girl’s passion changed history. What can you do with the passion in your heart?
