An additional fine-tuning of the manual types of white balance described above.

Manual white balance by pointing the camera towards the main light source instead of a white or gray reference surface.

Manual White Balance Settings

For automatic white balance: As a typical example of an inaccurate automatic white balance, the images already shown at the very beginning:

Johnny took a seat together with a color reference card on an armchair, which receives daylight from a cloudy sky through large windows.

The first image was taken with automatic white balance and turned out too cool, the second comparison image with manual white balance on a gray card. A closer look at the fields on the color reference map confirms that the right image in the gray fields has exactly the same red, green and blue components, while the left one has a lower red and increased blue component.

For manual white balance, a series of the same subject as above and with different white balance settings. The warmest type of light in the example - the yellowish light of incandescent lamps - causes the strongest correction towards cooler colors and the coldest type of light - shade - the strongest correction towards warm colors.
