ola bit her lip as she looked at the room. It was large and warm, with a view of the woods. The room was painted a pale pink which made her smile. She unpacked and placed her clothes inside the large wardrobe. This still didn’t feel right, but what choice did she have? She wanted to go home, just as badly as Fiona and Greg wanted Beck here. This was the best way, and she knew it.

She sat on the bed. What if Garth failed? What if being here wouldn’t help? She had almost given up on the hopes of ever going home, but now there it was again, and she didn’t want to lose it.

Was this how Beck had felt?

Nola was glad they had attempted to help her. If Garth succeeded now, they might be able to get Beck home as well. Back with her family, where she belonged. They would also get to go home. Would Ric be worried? How long had would it have been there? If only she knew more! Perhaps she could ask Garth. Whatever the unprecedented nature of their situation, he would know what was what in theory at least.

She pushed her hand through her pink hair. It was longer than it ever had been, way past her shoulders. She would cut it short as soon as she got home. She supposed she could get it done here, but she didn’t want to. She wanted Angela to do it, to sit in the salon and chat while Angela cut and styled her hair, and later would sit down and complain about her arthritis and about her son and her cats.

Nola sighed. Missing her boyfriend was one thing, but missing her hairdresser? Not that Ric was her boyfriend. Was he? She wished they had talked about what exactly they were, but they had assumed they had time.

She pushed the depressing thoughts away. She had to stay positive that Garth would find a way out of this mess. She didn’t blame him for the situation they were in. After all, his tech had worked. Sort of. Not his fault the thing fried due to some kind of electromagnetic thing in the atmosphere of this planet wherever that was. He couldn’t have anticipated it.

There was a knock on the door and Nola went to open it to find Greg there.

“Hi,” he said. “Can I talk to you for a moment?”

“Sure,” What was this about? Greg looked earnest but also nervous. She followed him into the library. Greg waved her to a chair and took one opposite.

“It’s actually a favour I wanted to ask you,” he said, fidgeting slightly. “I know you’re a paranormal investigator, but you do have the same training as the other investigators, right?”

She nodded, still bewildered. He took out a chip from his pocket and handed it to her. “Can you go through this and tell me if you can help?”

She connected it to her phone’s app to scan and download the data. She went through it, her mouth going dry and throat feeling tight.
