The three primary colors of red, blue, and yellow provide the basic starting point of a standard color wheel. Secondary colors are created by mixing two primary colors together (e.g., when you mix blue and yellow together, you get green). Tertiary colors are created by mixing a primary color with a secondary color. Analogous colors are any three colors side by side on the color wheel. Complementary colors create maximum contrast because they are directly opposite each other on the color wheel.

“Color evokes the greatest emotional reaction of any graphic element. Its presence significantly influences every design. More often than not, it is this aspect of a scene that induces a landscape photographer to stop and set up the camera.”10
