Chapter 10

Mira

Our place is two blocks from the restaurant. Holding my hand, Laz leads us through the crowd, racing up the sidewalk and into our building. The minute the elevator doors close, he pushes me against the steel wall and clasps my body tightly to his. Overwhelmed by his warmth and scent, I weaken in his arms. When his hands grip mine and pin them behind my head, my body shudders with a desire on the brink of bubbling over. I’ve never been a submissive person. But ever since we met, this man makes me want to surrender. He’s a man in every sense of the word and he’s what I need. Crashing his mouth to mine, I lose myself to his kiss as we meld together, sliding into bliss, panting out moans until the bell dings and the doors open wide.

“Let’s go, sweetheart.” He takes my hand and leads me to my door. Kissing and fondling while I turn the key, we fall in and hear similar sounds coming from my living room. At first, I think it’s the television. Maybe Daria and Bruno are watching Cinemax. Bewildered, we gaze at one another, shrug and tiptoe to investigate. When I see Laz’s eyes grow wide, I yank at his sweater to keep him from charging forward.

“What are you doing?”

“That’s my brother’s voice!” He whispers as he points.

Holy shit! Daria and his brother?

“Let me give them warning. This is humiliating.”

Before we enter, I look around the room and see Alice and Bruno fast asleep on a makeshift bed on the floor only a few feet from the couch where my dear sister is half-naked, straddled on the lap of some strange man.

Oh my God! Daria! That tramp!

I knock on the wall. “Daria. We’re here. Get dressed. You were supposed to be watching my dog!”

Laz chimes in. “Jake! Why are you fucking around with Mira’s sister? Is this how you take care of your niece?”

The pair scrambles to dress. Groaning and complaining about our early return, they push each other to find loose articles of clothing. I peek at my sister out of the corner of my eye and chuckle. She’s twenty-one, half his brother’s age. What the hell is she doing? This is the first time I’ve ever seen her with a man.

As she rushes out of the house, hiding her face, flushed and sweaty, she promises to call me later. Laz’s brother chases after her, leaving us both behind with a baby and a dog.

“Hey, asshole! You’re supposed to take care of Alice tonight!”

“I can’t, sorry. This is important. Another time.” Jakob bolts after Daria just as Alice starts crying.

Laszlo covers his face, shakes his fist and reaches down to lift Alice into his arms. He’s been planning this for days. We both have. But why does it have to be ruined? Parents sleep with babies in the house all the time. If things progress, we’ll need to get used to this, no?

I walk up and wrap my arms around them.
