Chapter Thirteen
âAnd youâre sure he said helicopter, not lobster?â Suzie asked, riffling through the pile of clothes on my bed.
I had called her first thing in the morning, asking her to come over to help me with an emergency. The emergency being me needing an outfit to go shopping and partying with Justin.
âLobster?â I asked. âWhat would lobster-proof even mean? Iâm one hundred percent positive that he said helicopter-proof.â
Suzie shrugged. âMaybe he wants you to wear one of those lobster bibs they hand out at seafood restaurants.â
I laughed. âIâm not wearing a bib to meet Justin.â
âYouâre right. Maybe put one in your purse, just in case,â she said. âIâll run next door and ask Alex to give me one.â
I held out a dress for her to assess. âThe bib can wait. What do you think of this dress?â
She tapped her chin. âPut it in the maybe pile.â
I threw the dress down and went through my other clothes.
âSo, are you excited Justin asked you to go with him?â Suzie asked.
I shrugged. âItâs nice.â
âNice? Come on, Addy. One of the worldâs hottest movie stars has asked you on a date and all you have to say about it is nice?â
I sat down on the bed. âTo be honest, I donât know what to feel. Am I attracted to him? I think so. Yesterday, during the movie screening, his toe touched mine and I almost exploded. The real question is, do I like him?â
âI know you two share an unpleasant history, but even I can see that heâs fond of you,â Suzie said. âAre you⦠afraid heâll hurt you again?â
I bit my lip. âMaybe. I canât even think about that. My last relationship was messy, and I donât want to put myself through something like that again.â
Suzie smiled at me. âAddy. You once told me to take a risk and follow my heart, remember? And look how that turned out. I have the most amazing husband I couldâve ever wished for.â
âIâm sure his yoga experience comes as a great plus in other areas as well,â I said with a giggle.
She grinned. âCanât argue with that. But enough about me. Weâve only got an hour before Justin is picking you up. Do you still have that dress you bought for the Snow Ball two years ago?â
I went through the pile of clothes on my bed. âI do.â
âWhy donât you wear that one?â
I unzipped the garment bag. âI donât know. Itâs way too fancy. Itâs even got tiny rhinestones and a sash. Thatâs not the kind of thing youâd wear for a helicopter flight.â
âYeah, and also not for a lobster dinner.â
âAlthough, the bib youâre forcing me to take would cover most of it anyway,â I said with a laugh.
In the end, I settled for a knee-length dress with a lace overlay and paired it with a pair of blue pumps. It was a purely practical decision. Justin probably bought his suits at one of those fancy stores that had a strict no denim and sneakers policy.
