I had a sudden moment of doubt. Maybe he wouldn’t hear it. Maybe I couldn’t do it.

“No!” I told myself sternly. “Don’t even think about failure. Like Leighton Buzzard Wanderers, it’s onwards and upwards!”

And I strolled off, whistling.
