Chapter 26
Omar’s Conjugal Visit
I went to the top of the steps to find Jasmine leading eight beautiful, full bodied, and scantily clad young women into Omar’s apartment. They reminded me of the ladies on the cover art that an American artist named Frazetta was famous for.
Jasmine said, “Omar said that he was entitled to four women, and talked about what they should look like, but he didn’t tell me much else. Four of these girls were slaves before, and four were from the old nobility. It will give him some choice, although they are all of his religion,” Jasmine explained.
“Should I go and tell him about what awaits him?” I asked.
“I would suggest that you don’t, my lord. They will need some time to get his place tidied up, among other things. Let it be a surprize.”
“I’m sure that it will be! Tell the girls to be gentle with him, won’t you? He’s an old man.”
“They will make him young again,” Jasmine said with a smile as she led me into my own apartment.
I had three nice surprises of my own waiting for me. A blond, a brunet, and a redhead. They were all very young and slender, they were naked, and they were kneeling in a line, awaiting me!
“These are Tatiana, Maria, and Colleen. Like me, they were all born Christians. I thought that you might be more comfortable among your own kind, and a man of your station deserves more than a single servant,” Jasmine said.
“Uh, welcome, ladies,” I said. “Thank you, Jasmine. I suppose that I’ll be able to figure out a way of paying you all properly, somehow.”
“But you have plenty of money, my lord.”
“I do?”
“Of course!” Jasmine said, “You have Hajji’s money chest, for starters. That’s enough to maintain this small of a household for twenty years, at least. Plus, your share of the palace treasury must be a thousand times that.”
“Why didn’t you tell me about this money chest earlier?”
“Because you never asked me, my lord?”
“You know, I’ve heard that answer before. Show me Hajji’s money chest, and then I’ll be wanting dinner, followed by a bath. It’s been another very long day. But first, get me out of this armor!”
The girls were all embarrassed when I insisted that they sit down and eat with me, since that wasn’t the way that they had been trained. I explained that this was my household and it would be run according to my rules. Here, we all ate the same food, and we ate it together.
Arabs all sat on cushions on the floor. It gave me cramps in my legs. I resolved to get some tables and chairs made ASAP.
Despite the fact that I was now dressed in one of Hajji’s elaborately decorated silk robes, I kept all of the girls naked. At their young ages, they looked better that way. There are limits to equality, after all.
I soon found out that each of them played a musical instrument or two, including Jasmine. She played a very small version of an Indian Sitar.
