Former Radio Free Europe Building

During the Cold War, many Czechs and Slovaks turned to US-financed Radio Free Europe for news from the West. After 1989, the radio moved its headquarters from Munich here to the former Czechoslovak Federal Parliament building (at the top of the square, just to the left of the National Museum). In 2008, RFE moved to a new building in the Prague suburbs, and the old headquarters ( GOOGLE MAP ) is now used as a National Museum annex.

St Wenceslas Statue

The focal point of Wenceslas Sq is the equestrian statue of St Wenceslas (sv Václav; GOOGLE MAP ; Václavské náměstí; mMuzeum) at its southern end. Sculptor Josef Myslbek has surrounded the 10th-century Duke of Bohemia (and 'Good King Wenceslas' of Christmas-carol fame) with four other patron saints of Bohemia – Prokop, Adalbert, Agnes and Ludmila.
