Walking & Cycling

The name Mljet comes from the Ancient Greek word ‘Melita’, meaning ‘honey’, a reference to the many bees humming in the forests. The island is still covered in lush foliage, and visitors can delve into it via the network of walking and cycling paths heading through the national park. Enquire about routes at the main park office in Pristanište or at the tourist office in Polače.

Bikes are available to rent from various locations in Pomena and Polače for around 20KN per hour. Cycling is an excellent way to explore but be aware that the two villages are separated by a steep hill. The lakeside bike path is an easier pedal and very scenic.
