High Tea of Highgate

Everything about this tiny tea shop on Highgate High Street is delightful, from the charming tea ladies to the scrumptious treats on offer all day long. There is a truly nostalgic air about the place and the tantalising smell of home baking as you walk in the door is enough to make your mouth water. Everything is made on the premises, and freshness and quality is the very essence of Georgina Worthington’s little enterprise. Served up on chintzy china, with a cow shaped jug for the milk and satisfying amounts of thick clotted cream, the cakes and scones, sweet or savoury, flapjacks and Bara Brith (a traditional Welsh tea bread) are scrumptious and satisfying. The regular list of cakes – including carrot, lemon drizzle, lavender sponge and chocolate orange, all displayed on cake stands under glass domes – is supplemented by daily and weekly specials, as long as they last. With an excellent selection of leaf teas to choose from, including the unusual Miss Worthington’s Rose, an exquisite Rose Congou scented with rose petals, Almond Tea infused with almond pieces and essential oil, and Lavender and Rosemary, you’ll be easily tempted to linger a little longer, or buy some tea to take home with you.
