DEWAR’S WHITE LABEL

John Dewar was a grocer and wine and spirits merchant of Perth who began to specialize in whisky. Under his sons John and Tommy, sales of Dewar’s blends expanded dramatically, and Aberfeldy Distillery was constructed to supply malt for them. Dewar’s White Label dates from 1899 and now has the distinction of being the best-selling blended Scotch in the USA. It is relatively light, fruity and sweet, with just a faint wisp of smoke.

THE FAMOUS GROUSE

Like Bell’s and Dewar’s, The Famous Grouse was created in Perth by Matthew Gloag, who established a grocery and wine business there in 1820. The Grouse blended whisky brand was introduced during the 1890s, and was subsequently re-branded as The Famous Grouse as it had become a firm favourite with the shooting set of rural Perthshire. Now owned by The Edrington Group Ltd, The Famous Grouse is Scotland’s best-selling blend. It is balanced and succulent in character, with good mouth-feel and overall presence.
