My responsibility for security makes me careful and I certainly had to be careful with you, a relatively unknown human being coming right into the centers of power. You've been having your mind thoroughly examined by us while you've stood there. We know nothing about the details of your life beyond what is public knowledge, or any of the facts which you should consider private and inviolate—but now we do know your personality, your motivation, your intrinsic worth, and your moral and ethical code of conduct. Because we are experienced and practiced, and you are unsophisticated in the use of telepathy, perception, and other such parascientific powers, we have been able to do this without your knowing it.
