Support During Implementation
Too many new program initiatives fail because, although thought was put into developing the program, little was given to building positive prerelease buzz. After helping supply robust information during the creation phase, this is the stage when the supporters of the SOJT program can have their next biggest impact.
One of my biggest guilty pleasures are those “limited time” food or beverage items you see in grocery store checkout lines or on the counters of convenience stores. I’m a huge sucker for them. If I see an intriguing new candy, potato chip, or soda, I’ll often buy one to try it. And once I do—and I’m inclined to like it—I’m going to go get more. But sometimes when I go back, the product is gone due to its limited release. The reason companies do this is to see how people respond to the items. If they don’t respond well, the item goes away forever. But if they do respond well, that item may become a staple on the shelf. Because of the “sample” period, they now have people like myself who will warmly and readily embrace the product when I see it return to the shelf. And I’m likely to tell others about how wonderful the item is, thus helping spread the word and further extend the positive perception of the item.
This is where supporters of the SOJT program can have a large impact when the program is implemented. They become evangelists spreading the gospel of your SOJT program to their peers.
