THE POWER OF THE GROUP

Many serious networkers are members of one or more networking groups. You can find out about these groups online, either via a simple internet search, by checking sites like Eventbrite and Meetup, or by looking at social media on topics you are interested in exploring.

These groups meet at regular intervals to talk and exchange information and leads. This meeting might occur once a week, once a month, or a few times a year. The makeup and rules of networking groups vary. Some groups are for people from the same industry. Others allow only one person from a given industry or job position at a time to avoid conflicts between members vying for the same leads and referrals. Some groups have no restrictions on membership. Others require members to pay fees. Fees help guarantee that a member will not back out, and they help to pay for meeting costs, learning materials, and guest speakers.
