Downturned

The main thing to keep in mind with downturned eyes is the location of the last few lashes on your upper lash line. These will be your “color-by-number” guides to creating the appearance of lift.

Apply a sheer, satiny shadow all over your lid and under the arch of the brow.

With the eyes open, apply a medium to deep shade of eye shadow on the outer one-third of the lid, aiming to stay within the line of the last lashes on the upper/outer lash line. Extending past those lashes will pull the appearance of the corners down farther. This shadow should be aimed up toward the temples, in line with the outer tail of your eyebrow.

Eyeliner applied on the upper lash line and lower lash line should not connect at the corner. Leave a small gap between them so that the eyes look more open and upturned.

If you are not able to get the lift in your shadow or liner application, take a damp Q-tip, hold it inside the very outer corner of your eye—where your upper and lower lashes meet—and lightly sweep upward to pull your makeup up and into place.

Apply mascara across the entire lash line and in the center of the lower lash line.
