As per requirements of the Arts in Education Model Development and Dissemination (AEMDD) grant, DREAM was required to develop project goals to report to the U.S. Department of Education relating to student test scores. In the first year of implementation, we found a modest impact in test scores. However, between year one and year two we adapted the institute and refocused the instructional activities and the coaching to directly relate to the reading texts and the test score exploded. Year two data, which is the focus of this next section, is where we found notable and significant results.

The overall mean 2010 and 2011 California State Test (CST) English Language Arts (ELA) scores for third and fourth grade students in each treatment group along with the comparison group are shown in Table 8.2.
