Khechari Mudra

The khechari mudra is a technique where one moves the tongue back into the pharynx behind the uvula and up into the nasopharynx area. This is a powerful technique that takes one into deeper meditative states. There are different opinions on this mudra within the Kriya community. Some feel it is essential and others do not. It is a challenging mudra to learn but just by placing one’s tongue on the upper roof of the mouth at the junction of the hard and soft pallet give one can an idea of the shift that can occur in awareness when the tongue moves deeper into the skull. That said, Ganesh Baba was very clear that this technique was only for those who were renounced or retired and no longer engaged in householder activities, otherwise regular practice of the mudra could make it difficult for a practitioner to engage in the activities of daily life.
