Which is hardly a problem considering all the bars and restaurants in town close earlier than that. I don't think anyone's wearing a red dress to bed, either. Even if they do, so what? When I was old enough to get that whole conversation about the birds and the bees, my dad said the rule was probably written down because red used to be a color solely reserved for ladies of ill repute. Or, you know, prostitutes. Brothels. That kind of thing.

There's not supposed to be a brothel in Steamydale anymore (though there are rumors that one exists somewhere, run by the local mafia), but I'm also pretty sure no one's going to randomly mistake a girl in a red dress as a prostitute these days, either. So...

"No," I say to Damon, shaking my head. "I'm not worried about that."

I don't laugh. I'm too nervous to. But the rule obviously doesn't mean anything anymore, right?

I, um... I'm not so certain, though. Mainly because:

"We should be finished much earlier than midnight," Damon says, squeezing the tips of my fingers lightly in his hand. "No worries, kitten."

Which... doesn't give me the peace of mind I was hoping for...
