CONSEQUENCES

Apolly stared at him. Was Mr. Ripped real? Was any of this? How could she be floating above Earth in a spaceship? And Mr. Ripped—who was injured himself by the way—wanted to give her his blood? This was miles beyond nutso. Had the Weren bite induced some kind of hallucinogen? That was it, she was out of her ever loving mind.

Expect, she was going on the idea that werewolves were real and that didn’t make much sense either. Maybe she’d fallen asleep and only dreamed she went out tonight.

Her stomach cramped, telling her it was all real.

Nausea churned inside her.

Apolly tried to sit up again. Nothing happened, her body wasn’t working. “I … don’t feel good.”

“It’s the Weren toxin trying to take over. Once my blood is in your system it’ll eradicate it and you’ll begin to feel better almost immediately. Stronger,” he said.

“I don’t want to die, or … become furry, so hook me up.” She grimaced, the pain tearing her up from the inside. “Quick … I need to get home.”

“I can’t just hook you up, our blood doesn’t work that way, and you need to be aware of a few things first.”

“What, I’ll turn into a … frog?”

“A frog?” Kade shook his head at her humor. “No, nothing quite so cute. I’m afraid you’ll become like me though.”

“Like … you? What exactly …?” she asked, pain making it hard to breath or even think properly.

“I am Andrican.”

“You already told me your name, but that doesn’t tell me what you are.” Apolly moaned as her skull felt like it was about to explode.

“My name is Kade, and I’m an Andrican, what you humans call a vampire.”

“Wh … at?” Apolly blinked. “No bleeping way.” She wanted to pinch herself but couldn’t even do that. “I really need to wake up now.”

“This is the only way to stop you from turning Weren and keep you alive. But if we do this, you will be tied to me for the rest of your life,” Kade explained.

Apolly could feel her body fighting, changing, her heartbeat slowing. “And what? I’ll grow fangs? Become some crazed, evil … bloodsucker?” She shook her head, or at least she thought she did. “No, no way.”

“We are not crazed, nor evil. Though you will crave blood and you will find that humans are extremely hard to resist.” He let her digest that.

“So, you’re saying I will want to eat everyone I meet?” she asked.

“Not eat, but you will want to drink from them.”

“M-my s-sister?”

“Yes.”

“No, I don’t want that. There’s got to be another way.” Apolly wasn’t one to cry at any little thing, but as agony continued to swamp her, she thought of her sister. Moisture pricked the backs of her eyes. “Ali depends on me.”

“Then you’ll have to be well fed before you see her. If there was any other way, I’d do it. This is the only option to keep you alive and from turning Weren that I know of,” Kade said gently.

“And I’ll need your blood to survive?”

“Yes,” he answered.
