Kendall’s Plea

“He gave us his fingerprints so willingly that it makes it hard to believe that he’s the killer,” Amy said.

“But you also don’t want him to be the killer,” Heather said. “And I can understand that because it would upset Kendall if he is.”

Amy sighed. “It really would.”

Heather and Amy had returned to the police station. Ryan and Detective Peters were comparing Marco’s fingerprints to what was found on the wine glass. They were waiting by Ryan’s desk, having been delayed by Chief Chet, who wanted to compliment Heather on her new Key Lime Coconut Donut. After there were no more donuts remaining and the chief left them, Heather and Amy spent some time discussing the case.

“So far, he is the only one that we know who touched the victim’s glass,” Heather said. “And there is a bit of a motive.”

“Yeah,” Amy admitted. “But you can’t really go around killing the people at your job who annoy you. No business could get done that way.”

“I think we still need some more information,” Heather said. “I feel like a few pieces of this puzzle are still missing.”

“Maybe Ryan has some pieces for us now,” Amy said, gesturing as Ryan and Detective Peters made their way toward them. “They look like they might have some good news.”

Even though she only had to wait a few seconds until the detectives reached her, Heather began to feel impatient. She wanted this case solved quickly and wanted to learn all the relevant information as soon as possible.

“What did you find out?” she asked when they were only a few paces away.

“We found out about fingerprints and the toxicology of the victim,” said Detective Peters.

“That’s great,” said Amy. “All we found out from over here is that Chief Chet likes the newest donut. Big surprise.”

“Were Marco’s prints the other set on Tina’s wine glass?” Heather asked, jumping right into things.

“That’s right,” Ryan said.

“That’s not really a surprise,” Heather said. “We know that he refilled her glass through the night. It doesn’t conclude whether he is the killer or not.”

“Though there were only two set of prints on that wine glass, remember?” said Peters. “One was Tina Tanya’s and the other was Marco’s.”

“There’s something else that makes it look like Marco might be our man,” said Ryan. “His fingerprints were on the paint thinner bottles that were found in the art studio.”

“That doesn’t seem strange though,” said Amy. “He was assisting Kendall with the event, and he told us that he paints in that studio. Of course his fingerprints would be on it.”

“We didn’t tell you about the toxicology report yet though,” said Ryan. “We just received it while we were comparing Marco’s fingerprints to what we found at the scene.”

“And it makes him look guilty?” asked Amy.

“The poison that killed the victim was a concoction of toxic chemicals,” said Ryan. “Something that could have been made by mixing paint thinner and some other cleaning products that would be found in the studio.”

Amy frowned. “That does it make it look like it was him.
