Juicy H2O
Light, refreshing, scrummy and good for you - water never tasted so great!
Sometimes a juice or smoothie can be a little too much for your needs and water is sometimes, well, boring! With that in mind I have created this refreshing thirst-quenching array of natural Juicy Waters.
There are now many juicy waters in the shops, but beware – they nearly all have sugar or artificial sweeteners in! As always, you can’t top making your own. Fresh is the winner every time. The ONLY one in the shops I would recommend at this time is the juicy water range from our friends at Innocent, but even these have some sugar added.
This small selection of juicy waters are also excellent for diabetics as undiluted juices aren’t really recommended, unless they are of the veggie kind. When a smoothie is too thick and a juice is too filling, Juice Master’s Juicy H2Os will quench even the most insatiable thirsts. ENJOY!
water, water everywhere, but …
Clearly, all of the juicy water recipes in this section use water as the main base. However, not all water is the same and there are many waters on the market today. The bottom line is we are in the fortunate position of being in a developed country. This means that, although many people in this country treat tap water like it’s the most contaminated substance on earth, in fact it is perfectly clean and perfectly fine. While there are some nasties in it, on the whole it will do a great deal more good than harm – just try not having any water for a while! Having said that, I still choose to drink mineral water most of the time since I can afford it and it doesn’t contain the few nasties that tap water does.
Bizarrely, spring water is not in fact a mineral water and some waters labelled ‘spring’ can come directly from the tap. Mineral water is water which has been naturally filtered through rock formations and then bottled at source. It is the most common of all water sold in this country and the one I personally use. Although this type of water contains minerals they are inorganic, and this means that those not utilized – most of them – will simply be flushed out of the body. So you will be having this water for the mountain water and not for the minerals. Reverse Osmosis (RO) works by filtering water through a semipermeable membrane that won’t allow most contaminates to pass through. The system isn’t perfect, as typically it will only filter 5–15 per cent of the water entering the system, but I would always choose it over spring water.
flavoured waters
Nearly all ‘flavoured waters’ will have either artificial flavours or colours and I would steer clear of them all. The same goes for ‘sports waters', which tend to contain artificial sweetners and/or sugar. If in doubt, check the label carefully.
