“I’m Jeritt Troy, and this is Frost Ramsey,” I said,

unsure of what was going to happen next.

He took a breath. “Okay, well, whatever the hell you

were doing,” he said, glancing over at Frost before turning

back to me, “thank you for saving my cousin.”

Cousin.

I took a breath.

“She doesn’t have to call me Deputy Donut,” the other

officer muttered under his breath.

“Would you mind coming with me over to the hospital?”

Parker asked me.

“She never says that to you,” he continued.

“Collin, could you please shut the fuck up,” he yelled

over his shoulder at his fellow lawman.

“No, that would be fine,” I agreed.

“What?” Parker asked as he turned back to me.

“We’ll go with you to the hospital,” I reminded him.

He took a deep breath, nodded, turned, waved the other

deputy away, and then started back for his own car. Once

Frost was in the front with him and I was in the back with

Liza, Frost asked him if he might know a man named Brekin

Creed.

Parker shifted in his seat to look at Frost. “What do you

want with the sheriff?”

At least the man would be easy to find.
