Chapter 8

A MONTH PASSED SINCE Daniel had last seen Jemma. He had just kind of gone through day to day, not really focusing on anything and trying to get through without thinking about her, even though he failed a lot.

Although it had been just a short time since he had last spoken to her, to him it felt like years. Daniel’s heart longed to call her; he knew that he had to stay away until all the toxins in his life were gone. The contract was successfully broken and he had no obligation to stay but he still had fallout to deal with from Lexi. Lexi was so unpredictable there was no way to know where she might strike next.

Sprawled on his bed, his thoughts kept slipping toward Jemma. Daniel longed for her to be near him and for his body to entangle with hers. Although the sex with Jemma was amazing, he missed the intimacy of holding her and whispering sweet nothings in her ear as she fell asleep. Daniel shook his head and looked at his phone. He unlocked the phone screen and scrolled around his social media. He had avoided doing so, due to fallout with Lexi and the entire show. But the shifting drama, away from him, Lexi, and Jem surprised him. Soon a picture of Jemma appeared on his feed and he froze. The photo was of her smiling and in mid laugh, and Daniel couldn’t help but smile too. He tried not to think about who she was with that was making her smile. It was too much for him to handle if she was with someone else and that person could make her happier than he could.

Jemma looked so incredibly happy and full of life. At that moment, his heart broke knowing she was happier without him in her life. That she was smiling and laughing at something he was no longer a part of. Daniel sighed, closed his phone, and put it in his jean pocket. He sat up on the bed and couldn’t help but look at his ceiling in utter defeat. He missed her a lot.

Daniel didn’t have long to dwell in his defeated thinking because soon his phone was vibrating loudly. He quickly took the phone out of his pocket and saw it was Dee.

“Hey, what’s going on, Dee?” Daniel asked, as he tried to play it cool. He didn’t want her to worry about him.

“Dan, I might have gotten something good for you.” Dee sounded excited.

Daniel couldn’t help but smile; Dee being excited about a potential gig was a very good sign for him. “Yeah? What is it? Don’t leave me hanging.”

He could hear Dee practically smiling through the phone. “Okay, so Dish Network is pitching a new TV series.”

Before Dee could finish Daniel cut her off. “This isn’t a reality show, right?” He was full of dread that she wanted him to do something where he’d be in a house with a bunch of D-list actors or forced to compete in a strange competition for other people’s amusement.
