“WOW, HOW THE HELL DOES someone get the nerve to do something so asinine?” She was talking to the hallway, completely shocked Daniel could do something to her like that.

Sure, it was good for the blog, it would mean tons of people would visit it, but it would also thrust her right in the middle of the limelight—a place she had no desire to be. Why did he lie? What did he have to gain? A publicity stunt. That was all it had to be. A stupid half-cocked publicity stunt cooked up with that sleazy manager of his.

Jemma paced anxiously, the walls closing in around her and pressing heavily against her. Ever since her parents died, panic attacks had become a major part of her life. Her head spun wildly with different scenarios. What would people think if they saw what had just happened? Entertainment with Jem would take a nosedive and fill up with hate. She would be the one causing problems with Ali and not the other way around. That wasn’t the only thing. Then, there was the rumor of actually dating Daniel Starke.

“What. The. Hell.” Daniel blurted out as he approached her

She turned. He unfolded his impressive frame from the chairs. He was going to come talk to her. Well, the last thing she wanted to do was talk to him. Her hands trembled as she forced herself to remember a breathing routine Maya had taught her. She looked around, feeling a bit like a rabbit trapped in a cage.

At the end of the hall was a big black door with the sign EXIT above it and EMERGENCY EXIT painted in bright red letters on the door. Maybe she could slip through the doors and make her way back to her car before he reached her. However, she didn’t want to trip the alarm system and attract any more attention to her situation.

She could hear his footsteps coming closer and her pulse was shaky. A cold sweat appeared on her brow. He was coming after her. There was a door at the back of the building that said EMERGENCY and she contemplated going through it. She creeped down the hall and took the first right and then a left. Her heels clacked against the tile as she strolled through the hallway, turning right, then left before reaching a longer hallway. “Who the hell puts a maze in in a restaurant,” she grumbled, and removed her shoes from her aching feet.

She turned around, but slammed into the solid wall of Daniel’s chest. His strong arms shot out and caught her around the waist to keep her from falling.

“Jemma, what the hell?” he asked, as he steadied her.

She wasn’t going to respond, but when she opened her mouth, words just started to tumble free. “Why would you do that? How could you say something like that?”

“I—I thought I was helping?”

“Helping? Helping?” she shrieked. “You have no idea what you have done to me or my blog. I depend on that site, Daniel.
