“I don’t think so. Those papers are the best my lawyer could draw up, if them no-good boys of mine come sniffing around, you shouldn’t have any trouble.”

“Thank you, Boss.”

“Don’t thank me, John. I haven’t given you a thing but a lifetime of hard work and worry.”

“Still, it means a lot to me.”

I hadn’t noticed the freighter come in to haul the Emerson’s goods, but it was right outside. Ruth said, “Mr. Emerson, if you’ll come this way, you can sit with Margaret, while you fly to the ship that will take you where you’re going.” Ruth showed him to medbay, and came back out of the ship. The ramp went up, and it took off. I looked at Ruth, and asked, “The Gene?”

“Yes, Boss.”

John asked, “Will they really be all right?”

I replied, “We’ll set them up right, and take care of them the best we can. The rest is up to fate.”

“Good enough. Give Ralph half a chance, and he’d grow corn out of a rock.”

“Nice meeting you, John. Take care.”

“You too, sir.”

I climbed aboard, and Ruth took off. I waved to John, as the door closed. It wasn’t long till George was shooing me away from the door. Ruth landed, and he set the case out on the tarmac, back at Scott AFB. Ruth got us back in the air. She said, “Next stop, Saucer Holler.”

She parked us in the barn, and I went in to find something to eat. In all the excitement, I had missed lunch. I was just finishing up my sandwich, when my comm rang. “Bob Wilson.”

“Dad, it’s Jimmy. Greg and I were out here in the woods, trying to find Rocki, and we found her in a cave, that has some old equipment in it. We thought you might be interested in it. Looks like it’s been here a long time.”

“Commonwealth equipment?”

“I don’t think so. Looks like it’s from Earth, but I’m not sure what’s it’s for.”

“Okay, I’ll be out there in just a bit.”

I put my comm away, and Nikki asked, “What was that?”

“Greg and Jimmy have found something in a cave they think I ought to have a look at.”

“Another adventure? Haven’t you had enough for one day?”

“I thought so. Apparently Murphy had other ideas.”

“You mind if I ride along?”

“Nope. I could use the company.”

We went out and got in the side-by-side. Nikki used her comm to lead me to the boys. Jimmy was standing outside the cave waving, when we got close. We got out, and he said, “In here. We don’t know what it is, but it looks old.”

Once we got back to the part of the cave they were interested in, they had rigged some lights. I saw an ancient-looking pot, that was green with verdigris. The worm and the other pot were still there, as well. There were even some gallon glass jars stacked against the back wall. I said, “Boys, you’ve found a still.”

Greg asked, “A what?”

“A still, for making whiskey.”

I wandered around, looking. A hole in a board caught my eye.
