I said, “Come ahead.”

Nikki said, “We’ll see you at the ceremony. You two stay out of trouble.”

We both said, “Yes, Ma’am.”

She shook her booty at us and walked off. Will and I went aboard. I said, “I know you’re a grown man, and you don’t need me up in your business...”

Will stopped me. “Yes, Bob, it is awfully quick, and I don’t have any problem with you being concerned about it. We’ve both been alone for a long time, since we lost our spouses, and we don’t see any reason to wait around until it seems proper. I couldn’t really get to know anybody, back on Earth, when I had so many secrets to keep. She just didn’t find anybody she thought was as good a man as her mate had been. We met, and hit it off, and before we knew it, we had both decided we needed to be together. I doubt that does much for your state of mind, but just know we’re both grown-ups, and we know what we’re getting into. Neither one of us has any illusions of it being smooth, but with Able watching my back, we’ll get through. Satisfied?”

“You stayed one step ahead of the FBI for all those years. I have to think you can stay out of the doghouse, most nights.”

He smiled. “Sounds like you have reasonable expectations. I think I can live up to that.”

“All right then. Get cleaned up, and let’s get this show on the road.”

He got to it. When he was done, we walked out to where they were all set up. Jim met us on the way. He said, “Will, I know you think you’re ready for this.” I cut him off. “Jim, I already grilled him. It’s cool. They know what they’re getting into. I know I wouldn’t risk any money betting against the two of them.”

“Sorry, Bob, Will. Force of habit. Should have known the Boss would have it under control.”

Will said, “No problem. I can see how it looks. It just isn’t actually that way. Like Bob said, we both know what we’re getting into. Nobody has any illusions that it’s going to be easy, and I’m sure Bob is going to give me crap for taking some of his crew.”

I said, “Able was having trouble finding a place to fit in on the ship, anyhow. Waddle needs to be able to run, and get used to his new legs. The only way we’ll have trouble is if Thump decides he needs to stay and keep an eye on you. Scotti seems to have high hopes for him.”

Will said, “That’s way above my pay grade, Boss. Thump is gonna do what Thump is gonna do, and ain’t either one of us gonna be able to change that.”

“I got that impression, too. Was he able to help any with their customs, Jim?”

“From what he said, I don’t think they’re big on formal ceremonies. Sounded more like they just spread the word that they’re mated, and call it good.
