Nineteen

It’s nearly two in the morning when the girls fall asleep in my bed. I rub my tired eyes, but I have something to do. As I head to the library, I think of everything the girls told me.

At some point, things took a dark turn, and Constance never returned to the dorm after what seemed like the beginning of a happy relationship. She was roommates with Liza, who was dating Aggie at the time. Then, Elon entered the picture. Fucking bastard.

Aggie was bullied and blackmailed into staying with Elon and hated every second of it. Apparently, he liked that such a seemingly powerful girl was at his mercy and that he could bend her to his will with one little threat. Aggie swears she isn’t the powerful one in her family. It’s her brothers and father, but having a powerful family still gives you some power. Poor girl.

Elon liked having absolute control over someone. Now, he doesn’t have shit.

My desire to drag him outside and stab a blade through his heart grows every moment. I want Edward and Elon to suffer as they die. Henry, I just want to dispose of. He’s too spineless to do what’s right and too easily influenced to not follow Elon around. I’m surprised he’s even a target. I’d have killed him either way, so making him a target was just Man’s way of preemptively approving the kill. Not that I would have asked first.

I make a few photocopies of a little thing I wrote up about Elon and paste them up all over the school. Dodging the minimal number of guards is simple, and this is just a little prank to piss Elon off. I’m not sure if he’ll suspect me, but he might. I need to escalate things, and this is the perfect way.

Around five in the morning, I stumble back to my dorm and climb into my bed, not even caring that I have to share. As Aggie and Liza both cuddle into me, I fall asleep easily. For the first time in what feels like my entire life, I sleep without a single nightmare.
