Is there anything celebrities don’t know?

Where’s Bono. Can’t he do a charity concert for something like this?

» DeanMoriarty

Oh great. A greenlit 9/11 conspiracy thread. I’m getting no work done today.

I believe 9/11 was orchestrated by the Quebecois in an attempt to sell more poutine. Prove me wrong. I dare you.

IN THE ONGOING BATTLE OF POT VERSUS KETTLE, RADIOHEAD LEAD SINGER THOM YORKE REFUSES TO DISCUSS ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES WITH TONY BLAIR BECAUSE “BLAIR LACKS ENVIRONMENTAL CREDENTIALS.”

When he’s not touring with the band Radiohead, Thom Yorke is involved with several politically active groups. These include Fair Trade Foundation of London, CND, Amnesty International, and the Friends of the Earth. Fair Trade makes some mean coffee, I think. I’ve never heard of CND; sounds like some kind of congenital disease. Apparently if you’re a real rock and roll celebrity, you pretty much have to belong to Amnesty International; it’s some kind of requirement or something. I’ve never heard of Friends of the Earth either.

As of this writing, Friends of the Earth, whoever the hell they are, is conducting a campaign called The Big Ask, whereby they petition world governments to pass laws against humans intensifying climate change. So far so good, right? Well, Friends of the Earth has been bugging Thom Yorke to sit down and talk to Tony Blair about climate change. He may not have been the best choice for a spokesman. We’ll give Friends of the Earth the benefit of the doubt here and assume that they chose Yorke because they know that politicians are more likely to talk to pop stars about climate change. Especially stars with more influence over the nonvoting slacker youth demographic than no-name boring scientists. But it’s hard to imagine what kind of conversation Friends of the Earth thought Thom Yorke would have with Tony Blair about climate change. Let’s try anyhow.
