Back in Toronto, Drake was further than ever from establishing street cred or embarking on a serious rap career. By 2004, his Degrassi character was known as “Wheelchair Jimmy,” a lazy nickname that demeans the character and wheelchair users in general by defining them solely by their use of a wheelchair. Plus it’s the least hard core of any nickname that could be bestowed on a gunshot victim who seeks to legitimize his struggle. Anything would have been cooler: WC Jimmy Jam, J Throne Cobra, Quint Jimmy Roller a.k.a. Krazy Kart Styles, anything.
